The practicum enabled me to build strong relationships with both students and colleagues, fostering cross-cultural connections that enriched my personal and professional growth. Overall, it was a transformative experience that not only met but surpassed my expectations, aligning perfectly with the program's goals of practical skill development and cultural exchange.
1.2 Procedures of practicum
The procedure of the whole duration of our practicum there was meticulously structured to ensure a holistic and enriching experience. The journey began with orientation, where we were introduced to the local educational system and cultural aspects, providing a solid foundation for our immersion.
Additionally, cultural exchange activities and community engagement initiatives enriched our overall experience, fostering deeper connections with both students and the local community. These well-structured procedures transformed the practicum into a transformative learning journey that extended beyond the classroom, providing a holistic and immersive educational experience.
1.3 Outcomes of practicum
Through this program, I've not only gained invaluable teaching experience but also formed lifelong connections with students, educators, and the Vietnamese community. SEAMEO's vision for international education has touched my life profoundly, and I am deeply thankful for the doors it has opened and the horizons it has broadened. This experience has left an indelible mark on my journey, and for that, I am truly grateful.
1.4 The challenges of practicum
The language barrier, especially with some of the local store owners. But despite the vocabulary gaps and grammatical hurdles, we discover a deeper level of understanding. We learn that communication extends far beyond words; it resides in the kindness of gestures, the warmth of a smile, and the willingness to listen and learn. In this shared journey of overcoming language barriers, we not only gain proficiency in new tongues but also foster bonds that bridge cultures, proving that mutual understanding is possible even in diversity.
1.5 Overall impression
My time in Vietnam as part of the Student Exchange Program has been nothing short of incredible. From the moment I arrived in Vietnam, I was welcomed with open arms, not only by my fellow students but also by the warm and hospitable locals. this journey has offered me a whirlwind of experiences that I'll cherish for a lifetime. But it's the people I've met that have left the most significant impact.
The warmth and hospitality of the Vietnamese people have touched my heart in ways I never imagined. Whether it's chatting with local restaurant owners or laughing with my fellow students, the connections I've made have been the highlight of this adventure. I've learned that kindness knows no language barrier, and the friendships formed during my time here will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Moreover, my stay in Vietnam was beyond amazing. It exposed me to different worldviews, stretched my comfort zone, and broadened my horizons. The friendships forged during this program, both with locals and fellow exchange students, were a testament to the power of cultural exchange in breaking down barriers and building bridges between diverse backgrounds. As I return home, it will be my deep gratitude for the lessons learned, the friendships formed, and the profound impact it has had on my personal and academic journey. It has reaffirmed my belief in the transformative power of internationalization and cultural exchange.
Side note: One of the best things about that trip was meeting this lovely person whom I consider as a sister and a daughter, this roommate of mine who I vibed with in all aspects. Though our time together was brief, the impact you've left on my heart is immeasurable. Goodbyes are never easy, but I'll carry the warmth of our connection with me always. You may be leaving my presence, but you'll never leave my thoughts. Farewell, dear friend, and may our paths cross again someday.
1.6 Suggestions for future improvement
This is for aspiring students that wanted to participate to the Student Exchange Program of SEAMEO, make sure to learn the basic language and numbers 1-10. As long as you know these things, it will help you navigate the new world/country that you will soon embark. I wish you all the best on your journey, from one traveler to another. Good luck!
